BLOOM is a large language model (LLM) created by over 1,000 researchers globally. Unlike models from companies like Google and OpenAI, BLOOM is transparent, open-source, and accessible to anyone. As Margaret Mitchell, an AI researcher and ethicist at Hugging Face, pointed out, “BLOOM is a significant step forward, but it won’t fix all the problems associated with large language models. The risks of toxic content and biased language are still present, and more work is needed to address these concerns.”

Percy Liang, Director of Stanford's Center for Research on Foundation Models, acknowledged BLOOM’s contribution, saying, "The open-access nature of BLOOM is an important shift in the AI landscape.
